DGGR nominations

All Deline Beneficiaries of the Sahtu Dene and Metis Land Claim Agreement were recently invited to participate in a call for nominations for members of the new Dene Gha Gok’e rehkwi (Beneficiaries Board or DGGR) effective September 1, 2016.

Under the self-government agreement, the Deline Land Corporation will be dissolved, and the Deline Got’ine Government will be the Designated Sahtu Organization for Deline Participants. To ensure the Land Claim rights and assets continue to be controlled by Deline Beneficiaries, the DGGR was established under the Deline Final Self-Government Agreement. It is responsible for protecting the interests of Deline Beneficiaries. The DGGR must review and approve all measures relating to the use of settlement lands and the investment of monies belonging to Deline Beneficiaries.

The first DGGR will consist of five (5) members, including the Ekwatide and four (4) appointed members.

The four (4) members of the first DGGR will be appointed on a part-time basis for two (2) years by the Main Council. These appointments will be drawn from nominations submitted by individual Beneficiaries.

To be nominated to serve on the DGGR, a person must be a Deline Beneficiary who is over 18 years of age and demonstrates that he or she relevant knowledge and experience. At least two (2) of the members must reside outside of Deline. Nominators may nominate no more than one person
