Post Secondary Funding Programs
 

DGGR Student Financial Assistance

If you are a Délı̨nę beneficiary, you may be able to get funding from the Dene Gha Gok’ǝ Réhkw’ı (DGGR) to help you pay for your education. For eligible students, they can get funding to go towards their tuition and a monthly living allowance. This funding is top-up funding and is not meant to cover all of your tuition and living expenses, but is meant to add to other funding sources available to students (for example, GNWT Student Financial Assistance (SFA)). The application forms are below.

The DGGR also offers Grad Awards for Délı̨nę beneficiaries finishing their programs. You must apply using the form below within 6 months of graduating

If you are a Délı̨nę beneficiary and have worked at a summer job in Délı̨nę or completed a practicum in Délı̨nę, you may be able to get an award for this too. Please apply using the form below after you have finished your job or practicum.

Funding for Students Outside of the NWT

If you are a member of the band formerly known as the Délı̨nę First Nation AND are a permanent resident of someplace outside of the NWT, you may be able to get funding through Canada’s Post-Secondary Student Support Program, which is delivered by the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government. This funding is available for students in post-secondary programs and also university college preparation programs. There is funding available for eligible students for tuition, monthly living allowance, and travel costs. If you are eligible, you may also be able to get DGGR Student Financial Assistance (if you are a Délı̨nę beneficiary as well). The application forms are below.

If you are a resident of the NWT, then you will apply for your (federal) funding for your studies from through the GNWT SFA program (and then you cannot apply for the Délı̨nę AADNC funding as you will be ineligible as per policy). Please apply for SFA here. Note that SFA has strict deadlines to apply. You may be able to get the DGGR student financial assistance as a top-up as long as you are a registered Délı̨nę beneficiary.


Change of Information

If you are receiving student financial assistance through the DGG and your personal information or school information changes please complete Form D – Change of Information as soon as possible.

Sahtu Dene Council ISETS & UCEPP Programs

If you are an Indigenous Sahtu student and were not approved for GNWT Student Financial Assistance, there are other funding sources available to help support your studies.
 

The Sahtu Dene Council offers non-repayable funding programs designed to help eligible students prepare for and pursue post-secondary education at recognized Canadian institutions.

University and College Entrance Preparation Program (UCEPP)
The UCEPP is a one-year non-repayable funding support program that helps eligible Indigenous Sahtu students transition from high school into full-time studies leading to a degree or diploma.

Application Deadlines:

  • Academic year beginning September – Deadline: July 15
  • Academic year beginning January – Deadline: November 15

Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ISETS)
The Sahtu Dene Council also provides funding support under the ISETS program for students enrolled in post-secondary programs. This funding can help with tuition, living allowances, and other education-related expenses.

Application Deadlines:

  • Fall Semester – July 15
  • Winter Semester – November 15
  • Spring/Summer Semester – March 15
