Notice regarding DGGR Nominations extended process

To all Deline Beneficiaries of the SDMCLCA,

For your information, by end of day September 2, 2016, the updated list of nominees for the Dene Gha Gok’eRehkw’i (DGGR/Beneficiary Board) will be posted on the ourdeline.ca website. This will includetheir short paragraph or video clip submitted as part of their nomination package; their residency status; and their picture (if provided).

Beneficiaries will be able to provide comments, in confidence, to the Nominations Officer regarding the nominees until Saturday September 10, 2016 at 5:00 PM MST. Comments may be submitted in... read more

On the Verge of a Historic Moment

Deline is on the verge of a historic moment.

The Deline Got’ine Government will replace the Deline First Nation, Charter Community of Deline and Deline Land Corporation as of September 1, 2016. 

Deline beneficiaries of the Sahtu Land Claim, and Deline residents can look forward to all services and programs continuing to be delivered without interruption by the new Deline Got’ine Government.

Deline Citizens have rights and responsibilities and are encouraged to participate fully in their new government.

Notice is given to the Beneficiaries of Deline that the nomination period for the first Dene Gha Gok’e rehkw’i (DGGR or Beneficiaries Board) Members of the Deline Got’ine Government closed on July 11, 2016. The Nominees for the 4 remaining positions are:

  • Gina Dolphus (resident)
  • Danny Gaudet (resident)
  • Leonard Kenny (resident)
  • Fibbie Tatti (non-resident)
  • Judi Tutcho (non-resident)

All Deline Beneficiaries of the Sahtu Dene and Metis Land Claim Agreement were recently invited to participate in a call for nominations for members of the new Dene Gha Gok’e rehkwi (Beneficiaries Board or DGGR) effective September 1, 2016.
 
Under the self-government agreement, the Deline Land Corporation will be dissolved, and the Deline Got’ine Government will be the Designated Sahtu Organization for Deline Participants. Planning for the future

As September 1, 2016 (Effective Date) nears, implementation activities are going full-steam ahead. Almost every week there are workshops and meetings, on topics from building the Lands department to reviewing draft laws for the Beneficiaries Board to designing the single accounting system.

The first election is coming up on June 6, 2016 and preparations are underway. We are planning information workshops to ensure that residents considering running in the first election have the opportunity to understand the scope and responsibilities of the new government and its council positions... read more

Look for upcoming workshops on Self-Government implementation plans

The Deline Self Government Team has begun work on planning self government implementation, including planning for transition measures within existing organizations (DFN, DLC, and CCD) which must be done to ensure there is a smooth transition to self government.
 
Between October 2014 and March 2015, workshops in Deline will be held to present plans for how the Lands Department, and the Beneficiaries Board will each function.

A message from the Deline Self-Government Team about implementing self-government

The Deline Final Self Government Agreement was ratified by a majority of eligible voters. To ratify the agreement, 50% plus one of all eligible voters were required to vote yes. When the ballots were counted, 64.5% of eligible voters had cast a yes vote.
 
Since then, the GNWT and Canada have begun preparing to pass laws in their legislatures recognizing the self-government agreement.

As part of the Deline Land Corporation, I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of self-government negotiation meetings in Ottawa and Yellowknife over the past two years and I have been really impressed. When you’re in a big negotiation, it isn’t always easy to get people to agree. But the government of Canada, the GNWT and the Deline Negotiation Team have all worked together to build a really strong agreement for Deline.

It’s taken us over 18 years to get to this point, but we’re closer to self-government than we’ve ever been. The Elders always spoke about governing ourselves. They said we know our issues; we know what our people want and what they need. They always thought it would be wise for us to make our own decisions for our own community. We are very close to making that a reality now.

Things are going very well for Deline this year. The caribou are back, the Deline Land Corporation has done its first payout to beneficiaries, and MACA has decided to build new recreation facilities in Deline.... read more
